Passengers are stuck when commercial drivers go on strike indefinitely

The union of Commercial Transport Owners has kept its word and halted operations until the government eliminates some gasoline taxes, allowing for lower prices at the pump.

Many Ghanaians who rely on public transportation to get to work and school have been left stranded with no viable option.

The union had previously vowed to go on indefinite strike on Monday, December 6, unless the government removed taxes such as the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy, Special Petroleum Tax, Energy Recovery Debt Levy, and Sanitation Levy.

Drivers in Ablekuma have taken to the streets wearing red armbands to express their dissatisfaction with the government.

Some passengers told Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM’s morning broadcast that they have resorted to walking to work.

After repeated failed attempts to obtain public transportation, some commuters claim they are left with nothing.
